Last month, WWTW welcomed Dan Goodbody to the team. Dan will work closely with the London Veterans Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison (TIL) Service to support service users in the London area.

The new IPS role is funded by Call of Duty Endowment Fund. CODE also fund three other posts at WWTW.

Dan, tell us a little bit about your background.

I am a former Royal Marine Commando. On completion of my military career I spent fourteen years within the corporate and private security sector within senior management roles.

How would you describe your role?

My position involves supporting ex-service men and women who have experienced mental health problems to gain paid employment using the IPS (Individual Placement and Support) approach working with the London Veterans Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison (TIL) Service.

What are you aiming to achieve in your new role?

This is a new role within the charity and my aim is ensure we support former military men and women and enable them to secure meaningful employment after mental health difficulties. I will also provide ongoing support to them and their employers.

Why are you supporting the ex-military community?

I have served in the military and I am aware of the hardships veterans face in transitioning in to civilian life. This role provides an opportunity for me to use my skills and knowledge to support those who have served and enable them to build a new career.

How have you adapted your role in light of the Coronavirus pandemic?

As most of the country has moved to remote working, my role has also adapted and I have incorporated a digital approach. For example, I now meet clients online rather than face to face. Crucially, this means that we can still deliver employment outcomes in the current environment.

Are you finding that employers are still looking to recruit during this period? If so, where have you found employment opportunities?

Depending on the industry yes employers are looking to recruit. Rail, construction, security and logistics industries are currently seeing more opportunities for employment in the current climate.

What would you like to achieve in the role in the future?

I would like to achieve the development of a larger team to support London based veterans and expand our network further with employers so they have the opportunity to benefit for the work ethics and standards of the veteran community.
