The Cumbrian Challenge, Walking With The Wounded’s (‘WWTW’) flagship event, takes place at Grasmere on 16th May 2020. The event, now in its 8th year has seen 850+ teams take part and it has raised over £1 million for the charity.


At its heart, The Cumbrian Challenge is a team-building event, open to groups of 3-4, hiking through the Lake District alongside our inspiring military veteran service users.

Businesses can choose from three routes, the Peak, the Tough, and the Tougher to tailor the challenge to all abilities. The event takes employees out of their normal routines and offers a challenge outside their comfort zones, encouraging them to work together to complete their chosen route in the fastest possible time. The sense of camaraderie in completing the challenge together helps develop relationships between colleagues that extend beyond the workplace. Here are our top 5 reasons why this is the perfect corporate team-building event:

1. Encourages Teamwork

Teams that work well together are more productive and successful. However, team building at work can sometimes be a bit tricky, particularly when some tried and tested corporate team-building activities fail to muster much enthusiasm. It’s time to shake things up and put your team to the test with a new challenge. The Cumbrian Challenge encourages everyone to work together in a fun (and competitive) environment.

The Cumbrian Challenge will put teams to the test as they work together to navigate one of three routes. They will need to call on multiple skills, including map reading, leadership and communication in order to complete the task ahead.

Completing and overcoming a physical test such as The Cumbrian Challenge demonstrates to the team members that they can achieve their goals if they work together; both improving confidence in tackling challenges and building on essential teamwork skills. Although the three routes are marshalled, they are not guided or fully marked so teams will need to trust each other if they are to complete the challenge. It is essential that at least one team member can map read.
